well no question ,,this movies are great unfortunately it didnt won any award from oscar..but the fact that not all oscars winner is a great movies itself...many have won but for me its not even deserved a nomination..i guess many would agree to me that every stephen king novel story turn into movies deserve a second look for oscar nomination... the run away jury,,,,a time to killl, are both good movies...

Hi there! Good question about a great movie! According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), The Shawshank Redemption did win a number of awards from different organizations, but they did not win any of the coveted Oscars. Here's a sampling of the awards the movie did win: USC Scripter Award (1995) - Stephen King (author) - Frank Darabont (screenwriter) Humanitas Prize (1995) - Feature Film Category: Frank Darabont ASC Award (1995) - Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in Theatrical Releases: Roger Deakins For the full run-down of nominations and wins, check out IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111161/awards And I completely agree with you: this movie was robbed of more awards! It is such a high quality movie on so many levels that it was sad to see it shut out of the major awards. Great topic! ~Wyrdsister
