What do you think of the educational system in the U.S.?

Now that I have a child of my own I am finding out that public education in the USA is far from satisfactory. School days and years are being shortened, teachers are not all as qualified for their positions as they should be, children are learning the bare minimum and then being passed on to the next grade. This makes me cringe. I was fortunate enough to have attended private schools most of my life, but with the cost of schools now, I am not sure my kids will be abel to have this luxury. I have lived in Europe as well and find that they have a much better educational system, not to mention Asia. If I could, I would move my family to Europe just so that my kids could have an excellent education.

I think US public schools are far from satisfactory. The schools where I live are all teaching the Standardized tests. My nephew was taught fractions in three days and took a state test and was expected to pass that portion of the test.Three days and he was supposed to have mastered the subject. It's wrong. Our childrens education should be one of the top priorities. The whole subject it really upsetting.

I agree, I've been a substitute teacher and seen how bad the lesson plans are for some teachers. You can tell which teachers commanded respect from the kids, because they were always a lot better behaved! The U.S. schooling system is worse than most countries. With the resources in the U.S. you'd think they'd be a lot better!
