Appreciate your response. I got it fixed the other day and we also went to washington DC for a trip. The mileage on the car is awesome given that it is 15 yrs old.

I agree with #1 as far as what kind of car or truck it is in, and who is doing the work. There is such a thing as a blue book for pricing repairs. Some japanese cars are very tricky to do if you have never pulled one and it could take as long as 8 hours if you go about it wrong. Water pumps used to be very easy operation and quite frequently needed but nowadays it's sort of like changing a more major component due to the other stuff that needs to come off to get to it. How much is the car worth and how many miles left to wear it out?

Thanks for your response KJ. The car is not actually worth very much. I bought it at only 400$. It has 260K miles on it already although it is driving well till now.

Well it really depends on what kind of car you need the water pump replaced. My experience is as follows. I6 years ago I owned a 1987 Saab 900 and needed the water pump replaced. It so happens that in 1987 Saabs, the water pump was located somewhere under the engine. So.....to make a long story short, even though it only took a day to fix, it was almost $500 for parts and labor.

Yes it surely depends on the type of the car. Saab 900 is actually very notorious for requiring water pump replacements. I am not surprised that it happened to you.
