I am interested to know where the saying 'Oh my God' comes from. I hear it all the time on reality shows, The Apprentice, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Oprah, Tyra Banks, and I am sure there must be many more. I have noticed it is mainly the ladies saying it, although the men say it too. Does it mean the same as WOWwww.? Is it a prayer? Does it mean to take the lords name in vain?

It's difficult to explain where it comes from, maybe we can try to explain the meaning of it. After a short search on the Internet, i found this explanation: ""Oh my God!" is a common slang-like phrase, communicating various emotions including surprise, happiness or dismay." It also can be use as an abreviation in chatrooms, being used as OMG.

Yes it does but since it's imprinted in urban vocabulary is not much that we can do about it...
