Housekeeping department, together with rooms division, food and beverage department, auditing department and the engineering department, make up the five basic deprtments of a hotel. Ii is responsible for cleaning the guestrooms and making them look clean,tidy,well-appointed and confortable. The housekeeping department also dose such work as to set up and to take apart banquets, exhibitions, conventions and conferences.
the housekeepina department is headed by the executive housekeeper and its staff includes housemaids, housemen(room boys), floor clerks, porters, linen room attendants, and seamstresses, and in Some hotels the painters, plumbers,general maintainenace mem and window washers. such housekeeping staff as porters, floor clerks, house-maids and room boys all have direct contact with the guest and contribute to the guest"s Overal experience with the hotel. The job of a housemaid or housenan is cspecially important,
for a confortable, clean, quiet and well-appointed room with a large soft bed is what every traveler looks for at the end of his/her journey or a day"s sightseeing. Even such trivial carelessness as an unemptied ashtray or waste basket, an inproperly cleaned bath tub, or an unthoroughly dried bed sheet can upset a frazzled guest and thus affect his / her
impression of the hotel.

The housekeeping involves wide range of activities that are intended for cleaning the house by cleaning dirty surfaces, dusting, vacuuming, etc. It is basically an act of cleaning the various furnishings and rooms in the house.
