what to do & how to react?

My friend's teen age only son passed high school exam securing above 80 percent of mark.Now studding +2,interested for electronics&telecommunication engg.But suddenly now in stead of studding,he is trying to earn money online.He is showing a lot of arguments for earning money on line instead of going for higher studies even if he is refusing to study +2.My friend is in a stand still.He tried in several ways to make his son understand the importance of higher study before going behind earning for money.But all in vein.I feel it is now-a-days biggest challenge to the parents.He is in a confused state,what to do & how to react.Please discuss....
