I've read and seen the Band of Brothers and I just can't stop thinking about the soldiers of the 101st airborn. They've defined a generation that actually did something for their country. I look at my life and see that it pales in comparisson to what these brave men have gone through, some before their 20's and others, in their early 20's. I truly look up to them and appreciate what they've done for democracy all over the world.

My boss was a member of the 101st during World War II and some of the stories he told. His group was that which landed badly in the swamps and directly into the town (I forget the name). The landing was depicted in the movie "The Longest Day". My boss was only slightly injured so he was able to help his buddies. It was an honor to have known him. And yes, I look up to all those who are in the military...and those gone but not forgotten who paid the price of our freedom.

Actually I have met many of our heros. I was in Vietnam and had contact with lots of military from all branches. I was there during the war, during the peace talks and left just two weeks before Saigon fell. They are wonderful people and most of those that met were dedicated.

One of my favorite mini-series of all time! It was a great story and I know it was based on actual events. I have nothing but admiration for those brave men.

I'm actually watching Band of Brothers right now. They are playing it on the History channel for Memorial Day. I have seen all the episodes before , though. I think I need to get it on DVD, lol. The thing I love about this is the reality of it. These are not made up characters. It is based on facts and stories that these people told of their times. My dad was in Japan at the end of WW2. He didn't see alot of fighting, but I did get to learn to count in Japanese before I could count in English, lol. My husband and I have a habit of hanging around people who are older than we are. One friend in particular broke down one night and told us stories of storming the beach at Omaha. He said he'd never talked about it before. I cannot imagine living through the stuff he told us. I definately salute those people. Words can't say how indebted we are to them.

I've watched TV series and it's really good. It's hard to think that the men of WW2 went through all that pain and sorrow. If you haven't watched the series, I recommend watching it!
