Sometime back where there was no fighting, Kashmir was known as Switzerland of India. What makes them so distinguished to each other?

Why was it called the Switzerland of India? When did the fighting begin, was it when India and Pakistan become two countries, or more recently?

Exactly after the partition. But the real fighting started after 1989. The glamour of this heaven is slowly fading. Thanks.
