I'm wanting to go on an over night hiking trip in the spring but I'm kind of worried. I don't know how much water to pack. Any hikers out there?

Will you be hiking near water? My husband and I hiked on the Appilacian Trail and we took along a water pump with a filter system on it. It cost around $70 and that was about five or six years ago so cost may have gone up. But it is great because you don't have to carry so much bottled water.
If you want to carry water will you need it for coking? How hot will it be in the area that you want to hike? How much water do you drink during the day? All these will factor into how much water to carry. But roughly you should have at least a gallon to two gallons of water if you plan on carrying it.
