It is a tough call. But if we go into match winning habits it's Brian Lara. At the same time it can also be said that Sachin has scored in many matches where India has lost. He is not lucky in that sense. Take the example in Malaysia, even after Sachin scored a 100 India lost.

I agree with ssh123, both are two sides of coin, one for india and one for westindies.
My personally liking is for sachin but if you are asking as per performance, its goes to lara because of playing for winning matches, sachin plays for record sake.
It is my view as per my knowabout cricket. maybe you all better know.

lara doesn't stand anywhere near the master-blaster. lara is so inconsistent that it won't be wrong to call it-by chance- type. neither is his technique anywhere near to that of sachin

Lara is incomparable and look who is talking abt being inconsistent Lara plays as per the situation and as his team requires Sachin plays for himself and talk abt technique if Sachin has it why has he not scored a triple century in Test cricket? That means Sachin lacks what Lara has in plenty.

Who says Sachin is consistent he has limited strokes and is boring to watch.Abt his comparison with Sir Don is all rubbish it is hyped by the Indian Media who have no better work.A player like Lara is born once in a century and we r indeed lucky to watch him play a genius who weilds his bat like a musician,magician a composer of ultimate natural talent who strives for his team unlike Sachin who is very selfish & business minded.

Of Course Sachin, Well Both r Masters in their way, No doubt Lara is a tallented Batsman, But the Way of thier batting is different as per Shots r concern Sachin is Best Striker all around the Ground.

Well I don't Agree with you that shots dont make any batsman great. A Bats man have to play diffrent power shots to show his caliberty as a Batsman other wise every one can batting, with spcial shots, yes as per the team is concern it is completely a Team work, neither LARA nor SACHIN Can Win A Match without other 10.

I feel that brian lara is a much more better cricketer than sachin tendulkar now. He used to be good but after the year 2000, sachin tendulkar is a great failure and has not produced a single match winning effort, after that he has only played for his personal record rather than for the team which was clearly evident on many matches whereas lara had played many match winning innings especially in the longer version of the game.

I think Brian Lara is more consistent than Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin in good form can get lots of runs and helps to win the team
