LOL what a funny and interesting topic!! I would imagine they have no choice, as most domesticated pets are still carnivores by nature. (Such as cats will still catch and eat a mouse even if they have never had to kill for survival.) Most all foods, whether it is dry or canned contain meat proteins. Humans eat such a variety of foods that if they cut meat out of their diets, it can easily be replaced with other foods. Not so simple for animals though. I can't see a cat or a dog eating a half a cup of peanuts for their daily protein....are you a vegetarian?

I have heard of people feeding there animals non meat products, I don't like to eat meat myself but feel, dogs and cats really don't have much more than their food to look forward to, I think it is cruel to deny them the food they are meant to eat.

vegans pet - vegans pet food
I think vegans don't feed their pet meat because it will be in contrast of what he/she believes. when you are a vegetarian, you believe that animals should not be eaten,I think this principle also applies to the food they give their pet they don't want any meats to be eaten not just by human but by animals as well. Although this will be in contrast with what the pet naturally eat.

This is an interesting concept, I would hope so. Most animals that are pets are carnivorous in nature and their digestive systems are designed ot break down foods that are primarily protein and amino acids. To give a carnivorous animal only plant material would increase its chances of developing health prblems big time. Now heres a good question to ask, just because plants can't speak, what makes vegetarians and vegens think they can't feel pain? Just because they don't have a way of sending messages through eltronic signals via a nervous system doens't mean they arne't aware of their surroundings. I mean look at the momesa plant of sri lanka, if it feels any sort of pressure it'll fold its leaves togethor to minimize damage and to look smaller to anything that may want to eat it.
