Hello peeps.. i guess every country has their own tales.. weird, funny, unrealistic, UFO, ghost, etc.. So what is your tale in your own country?
Mine is mostly ghost story and supernatural sightings..
Ghosts:-
orang minyak - the ghost is an oily type of ghost and will climb into you home to rape you or steal your babies. some reports say that these are also theives where the come in naked and rob you. you can't catch them because they are oily and easy to escape.
pontianak - when you poke a banana tree's heart at 12 midnight, you'll see a vampire like female will appear
hantu susu - milk ghost, come in during the night and will visit those who drink milk at night
orang pendek - short people from the jungle which resembles human.. around 2-3 feet tall only
and the usual ghosts which stalks around the highways where most deaths occur..
so what are the folk tales from your country?

well i live in pakistan,there might be many stories such as ghosts and etc but i would like to share a funny story,a few months back it rained severly in Karachi and there the sewerage system of one of the under pass stopped working and within a few hours the complete pass was covered with water and cars were stuck in it,I mean it was a scene we dont often see,it was really funny

in the US we have the Jersey Devil, the Bell Witch, Big foot,lots of other places but I can't think of any right now

its suppose to be some sort of flying creature that haunts the Pine barrens area in New Jersy. Legend says it was the 13th child of some woman who cursed it because whe was sick of rearing children. It turned ito some bat like creature and ate all the other children and escaped into the woods

:O i have heard b4 the jersey devil.. but not very sure what is it.. is it something like a wearwolf?.. the dog that kills ppl?

you are very right! i'm from india, here we have atleast millions of stories , so i can't name them , but RAMAYANA, MAHABHARTA, AND THE BHAGWAD GITA is largest of them , they are also msny other in other religions , but i don't know much about them, they teach us a lot.

i've seen from national geographic they have 1 religion where they eat human meat.. after eating their mind will be free from painful thoughts.. have u heard?

like one person said, it depends what you get from your tongue , blessing or curse, from matchbox ,cooking or fire, always powerful people have started wrong tradition in their personal favour, and people blindly obey them ,that is where the problem lie, u know.

hmm we have Jinns == these are demons who took possession on human bodies.
Pichel Pairires == people says these are demon women, their feet are turned behind like there fingers are facing back and their heels are at front.
Bad Rooh== these are bad spirits.
Ser Katta== a man with out his head and holding it in his hand some times.
Dian== some believes that there're a women who ate their own child's lever and after wards they starts eating lever of every other person they find alone.

jinns @@".. we have those too in my country.. they roam in the jungle also.. we call them jin or gin.. they also possess the body of a person.. the witch doctor which we call them bomoh will come and try to dispel the evil spirit.. jins are foul spirit.. uncleansed and like to disturb people..
hmm.. feet turn back kinda remind me of people in somewhere africa where they have a rare genetic disorder.. kinda like horse legs @@".. eery..
oo ser katta.. we have alot of ghost without heads as well.. from WW2 where the japanese usually chop ppls head off..

by the way i dont believe in them except JINNS means Demons who really exists and rest of others are i think just a tales.

wow nice topic
i am from india and as every one think india is the land of magicians ....
but it is not so ....
and the stories that occur here are in some rural area not in the city
one of my friend told me that when his brother friend was returning late from the library he saw some ppl on horses forwarding towards mosque he was scared out of his wits and fainted at that spot.....
after counsellings a holy man on this topic the holy man said the the ppl which he saw on horses were going to pray in the mosque and also told him that they r not one of us .......

These are my true experience .
I have lived in Hyderabad most of my life .I have been seeing UFO”s occasionally for about 10 years. I have seen a white and red cylinder shaped one in the daytime .I have seen many fast moving lights and have watched them disappear in front of my eyes .Unfortunately they weren’t close enough to see the shape of most of them
I was sitting in my neighbors yard and saw a light moving back and forth .I told my sister to look at the light and line it up with the light poll. They did see it move back and for the about 6 times and then disappeared .I asked my brother if he still thinks I was nuts .Finally they believed me , which I didn’t care if they did or did not believe me .

:O canibal man.. now this one is another new one..
i've not heard anything about it.. so what's up with this man sumanto? he eats ppl in the jungle?
i've heard of stories that there are always ghost in the jungle where they always confuse you and make you lost in the jungle but that's about it.. the natives always are weary during the night cuz that's the time when the ghost come out to roam.. but they respect them so that they won't disturb the natives..

Interesting discussion. It's fun to learn about tales in different parts of the world.
Along the forested parts of the coast in Western Canada and the U.S., some people claim to have seen a Sasquatch or Big Foot, a giant, hairy, human-like creature.
We also have a lake in Western Canada that is said to have a monster in it, called Ogopogo. It's like a giant serpent with the head of a dragon.

:O yeah.. i've heard those b4.. it all came out documentaries.. ogopogo the creature that is similar to its cousin.. the lochness monster..
hmm.. the big foot in the US, we have orang pendek.. the tiny version.. it's only 2 feet tall and lives in the jungle..
well i think US is famous for UFOs :D.. i've not seen any.. but would like too..
well anymore folklore from US that is not so famous? i would love to hear em.. thanks ^^

I am from the USA and I think we have too many weird stories for me to even recall or to be able to type them up. There are reports of weird activity alomst everyday somewhere in the country that I dont even hear about so there are plenty.

yeah.. well it's well documented over in the US.. the most famous ghosts, eery sounds in tombs, UFOs.. sasquach or big foot.. ogopogo.. wearwolf .. vampire.. all seen in the TV :D ahaha.. anything that is least famous but there's a tale to tell about it?

Great topic..nice to read tales from diff. country.....
Well i'm from india and its got a lot of tales to tell but for surely which I know about is from the region of calcutta...
It goes like this that every year around mid december, there roam some bandaged ghost (diff from mummy) in a particularly prespecified region(belgharia to be specific). No body alive yet have sited it, but it kills anyone who roams in these areas only during the evening.
These killings continues till begining of new year and then suddenly these killings stops.
Don't know is it some supernatural forces or what??????
