Angeles comedy club delivering a racist tirade directed at four African-American hecklers. The hecklers--three men and one woman represented by celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred--have reportedly agreed to meet Richards' (with a retired judge who will serve as a mediator) to accept Richards' apology. If the judge recommends it, do you think Richards' should pay financial damages to the four people he offended? If not, do you think he should make a financial contribution to a race relations-related cause?

His career is over at his own doing. I don't think that he should have to pay anything. I think that the apology sound like a great idea, but as far as financial damages, I don't think so.

I think everyone has posted some very good responses and I just wanted to add that I feel that since you never get a second chance to make a first impression the guilt of what he did was punishment enough. as a black woman I will still watch seinfeld and have no problem with kramer whatsoever.I never will understand how the majority of black people who were offended by what he did use that term on a regular basis. if a word is offensive it should be offensive reguardless of the race of the person who says it.I wish all races would delete that word from their vocabulary.

CORDALE - I feel the same way that you do. I wish no one would say such a word when it has so much negative history to it.

I certainly don't think he should have to make a contribution to anything! It stops being charity when you're forced into it. And he certainly shouldn't have to pay the four individuals he offended. Yes, he's a celebrity. Yes, he said some horrible things. But unless we make every single person who makes racist remarks in public pay the people they've offended, it's not fair. A formal apology should be enough. Besides, Richards is going to be dealing with the consequences of this for a long time. He lost a lot of fans and a lot of respect. He won't be finding it as easy to get jobs.

So are you saying he should pay them or not pay them?

Absolutely NOT! That just sounds completely ridiculous. BIG DEAL. Some people were offended. In my opinion this situation seems to be all about money. I find it hard to believe that had this been a homeless man on a street corner heckling these four people, the first thing on their minds would be to drive faster than the speed of light to Ms. Allred's office. Get a life people. Don't like what he said? Leave the club. Don't watch his shows. Don't patronize him. Michael Richards probably more than likely has offended many people during his career. Obviously they did not feel the need to pursue him legally. Personally I have my head in other issues. Taxes, illegal aliens, the environment and looking forward to the new season of Laguna Beach. No I don't believe that Mr. Richards should be forced to pay ANY damages. As far as I'm concerned he should not even be made to apologize. BUCK UP people! Whatever happened to STICKS AND STONES?

I don't think he should pay damages or make a financial contribution. I think he should apologize and then fade out of the public eye. Forever. The end of his career should be punishment enough. :)
