How do you deal with people who lie?

I don't want someone who lies as a friend and just don't associate with them. What if that person is a family member or a co-worker? How do you deal with them?

I usually just ignore it, but if the person is a pathological liar then I confront them and see how they react... then take it from there. If I or other people are getting hurt because of the lies I will try to show the person the damage they are doing.

That's a good thing to do. I can't stand it when someone lies and they think they're getting away with it! Thanks for your response.

Not a very fun work environment? If they lie, and clients figure it out, then they will assume you do too by association. Not sure sure what to suggest except to look for another job. Best of luck to you! Thanks for your response.

I dont like them either. But I always get caught to them (LOL) This is my one weakness, I trust everybody. Sometimes, knowing some person is lying, i still think, this time he may be telling the truth. To find out he has lied again! But there is a safety net also. I very rarely act according to others. How much people tell me things, I have to think and get myself convinced of that, then only I take any action.

We have a family member that is a compulsive liar. He has been that way since as long as I can remember. One day my mother and I saw him walking on the street. We pulled over and started talking to him. He told us that his brother had been in a terrible auto accident and had a cast that went up to his hip. He went on to say that he was bedridden and his mother had to wait on him hand and foot. Frantic over the news, we drove directly over to my uncle's house. We practically ran up the stairs that led to his room. There he sat on his bed, crosslegged, playing his guitar. We asked when he got his cast off. He looked at us as if we had two heads. After explaining why we would ask such a question. He laughed and said that his brother had problems. Some people are just compulsive liars and cannot help themselves. It is when they tell lies to weasel themselves out of a sticky situation that bothers me. I confront them and make them stammer until they tell the truth.

Liars are annoying but then, ever heard of white lies? These are lies told so that someone else or you may live, in other words these kind of lies does'nt mean harm even if you are the one being lied about. There is no unfair motive in such a case. It depends on the kind of lie how I will deal with people.

I think almost everyone tells little white lies? If a friend asks what you think of her great new haircut you say it does look great even though you may really think it looks awful. No reason to hurt feelings over it. Thanks for your response.

I won't put up with a liar. I usually give them enough rope to hang themselves. How can you ever believe what comes out of a liar's mouth? You can never trust them. If I found out that someone has lied to me, I will call them on it. I will call them a liar. After that, I just won't have anymore to deal with them. They are then out of my life. I don't have time for liars, life is too short.

Have as little dealings with them as possible. You won't believe anything they say anyway.

I don't get direct to them and don't speak my mind straight away. I get indirect and try to trap them in their lie in directly.

I to cannot stomach a liar. If I know that someone is not truthful with something...when they mention it I call them on it...sometimes backing them into a corner during a conversation makes them shut up and stop all together ~ at least around me!
