Unhappy? Depressed?

Well, obviously if you're really bad off you should really talk to a professional, but as long as you're not contemplating any ugly irreversible acts, here's something that might help. Think of someone you know that seems pretty happy about life. How would you describe their attitude? Are they kidding themselves? Are they ignoring the ugly truth about life that's right in front of their eyes and pretending that some happy fantasy world that exists only in their heads is real? Well, guess what. That is exactly how every happy person in the world acts. And the really strange thing is that it's OK. Because the reason that you are unhappy is that you have constructed a fantasy world just as complete and just as removed from the "facts" as the Pollyanna imaginings that you so despise in those happy people. Reality is in fact neither good nor bad, it is a very plastic inkblot sort of thing that can be bent and twisted in many directions depending on your beliefs. WHAT! you say? What about THE TRUTH? Well, that's a complicated question and it gets into the meaning of life bit that we haven't gotten to yet, but suffice it to say that what is REALLY going on is so strange, so complex, and so far beyond our everyday understanding, that it bears no relationship to what you think of as "reality", "truth", or "reason". Good and bad, happy and sad, these are notions that you are imposing on the world around you. But, more on that in part II of the Meaning of Life Page. The answer to unhappiness is both liberating and infuriating, but here it is. Happiness doesn't depend on anything that has or has not happened in the past, nor does it depend on your future prospects (thank God, eh?). The simple fact is, in order to be happy:

happiness isn't absolute as like unhappiness - look if he is happy or unhappy, i'll say both.Happy for some and unhappy for some!
yeah .... the theory of happiness i beleive in is that:"if u want to be happy u r happy n if u want to be unhappy u r unhappy" In ma personal experience if there is a thing u r unhappy about,then what, there are so many things around u for which u r happy.i beleive always happiness and unhappiness are in a sort of balance. The time u r happy the balance is on the happy side,and vice versa!but in actual there is no absolute happiness r unhappiness in this world the concept of a sort of balance between them is 100% correst

ya..i know some people who are unhappy..infact depressed...depression is not coz someone has built his own dreamworld n expecting the same in real world..i mean its only sometimes...depression sometimes is also a result of continuous failure in life or due a lot of sadness..

well you can remedy that, sometimes unhappiness is also our fault. its the meaning we attached to every situation..i cannot fully explain to you how but you can understand me by reading the book of anthony robbins awaken the giant within.. i am also like you before but after reading the book, it would straightedn you perspective and be happy again...

I fight depression every single day of my life. Within the past few years I've been on multiple medications, but always had trouble remembering to take them. As I grew up and matured I could remind myself to take them, but I found a specific key to helping myself. I started practicing the religion of Buddhism and before you know it, things suddenly started to come into perspective. True, im still taking medicine, but the meditation and relaxation time could not have hurt whatever situation I was already in.

before its my line of words now i am as happy as a bird. i can do what ever i want when ever i wanted to, life is always the ups and down but it depend on us how to deal with our problems. always be possitive its normal to cry and feel bad but after that move on and learn from the mistakes.

sometimes i get unhappy and depressed cause i don't have a job, and can't find one in my area.

thank you for this posting. It is very rare in deed that someone speaks sense about depression. I work in psychology in a prison and come accross this sort of thing, and much worse every day and what you say is true, there is no objective reallity just our impressions of it therefore we can change our reality at any time if we only have the knowledge and will to do it, thank you again

The very big methology to escape from unhappy and Depression, you have to stay only that moment. I not meant that to forget your targets and leave it. I am telling that do best performance your daily things so finaly I believe you will not unhappy and Depression anything in future. Do best you can and Satisfy your best performance and Try to improve what you want to get it. Finally accepet that is today's best you can ......... But make arrangements to build your plans with Aim.

the life is tobe taken in a way it comes to us.you have to keep observing your life events as if it is happening to somebody else,though,this is dificult but can bea chieved through yoga and medatation.

The difference between unhappy and depressed is this. Depression is a chemical inbalance in the brain. Unhappy is just not having your expectations, hopes, dreams, come to fruition.

being unhappy depends on what you attached meaning to the situation..its all in the state of mind..its all on the words you feed to you mind, your vocabulary, the metaphor that decribes the situation..i cannot emphasize this but get a copy of a book on anthony robbins awaken the giant within...now i am happy everyday!!! my life changed after reading the book..this might help you!!!

the only time we feel depressed is when things dont go our way ......be it in any manner... when things keep going our way we feel pleased, and that pleasant thing brings in a smile which makes us happy. So if we can feel that those things which dont go our way are for our Good only, we can feel satisfied which in turn makes us pleasant making us happy :)
