Do you have a Palm, Treo, or Blackberry?

Or similar device? What do you like/dislike about it? Which would you choose if buying one now? I'm looking into a cell phone/PDA that has a built-in keyboard for email.

No, but I don't need one. I just have a normal mobile (term used here) which just happens to have internet access. But in the future when i become a successful businesswoman (!) i might consider getting one..;)

I'd really like a handheld device that can accurately translate speech into text. That way instead of killing your eyes and thumbs, you can just dictate into the device and it will create text documents for you. You could dictate blog entries, or even snappy responses to Mylot discussions. Helicopter optional. ;-)

Yes, as a young business whiz from the roaring Celtic Tiger you'll need to be fully equipped with the latest gizmo outfitted with IM, wireless Web, WiFi, digital surround sound, Dolby HFX audio, and the whole ball of digital wax!

I am looking at the new Samsung Blockjack that just came out. I like the built in keyboard, but I also like the fact that it is very thing and made with metal parts instead of plastic, which makes is much more durable. I like using my phone for browsing the web and for text and email messages. Since I travel a lot and I am away from my computer for 3 or 4 days at a time I can still keep in touch with folks and update my blogs from the road that way. I want one that is thin and lightweight, but also very durable. I will probably test out 4 or 5 different one's before I finally make a choice. Stores here have a 30 day return policy on merchandise, so I will try it for about 3 weeks and then change it for another one until I find something that I really like.

Thanks much for the info, that's another device for me to check into. Your current phone must have a good keyboard, if you can blog from it. I have a cheap phone with just a regular phone keypad, if I do more than a simple text message on it, it's excruciatingly slow and annoying. Since I'm a writer I may also get a very small and light laptop, some of the Sony VAIOs only weigh a few pounds. I actually have an old Windows 98 VAIO without an optical drive that I used to carry around just for word processing and note taking, it only weighed 2 lbs.

It's amazing what a person can learn to do with two thumbs when they have lots of practice!

My dad used to work for RIM. The company that makes Blackberrys. I hated them with a passion. They suck so bad, and the thumbwheels only last for about a year, not even! The screeen gets messed up easily too. Anywho, I'm ordering a Palm Treo today since I have Verizon wireless. I can't wait to get it. I'm an organizing freak. If stuff isn't organized, I go mad sometimes. He he he.

Thanks, didn't know that about the thumbwheels. That's a big factor, since you use the thumbwheel so much. I've heard good things about Treos.

Haven't heard of Dopod, but have heard a few people mention it. Who makes it? Maybe it's something that's not sold in the U.S.

What do you need the device for? Which service provider are you currently with, if any? If you're with Sprint, I would say get the Treo 700wx. If you're with Verizon Wireless I would say get the Treo 700p or wait for the 700wx to posibly hit Verizon early next year. If you have Cingular get the Treo 680.

I'm not with any provider now, so I'm wide open as far as that goes. I'm a freelancer/independent contractor so I need something that I can use to send email on the go while traveling or working at a client's location, or from home. Thanks much for the suggestions, I'll check into these. I've heard Verizon has the best network, at least according to people in my area (NYC environs).

I just had a Pocket PC which annoyed me and I also wouldn't mind an upgrade, maybe to a Blackberry. I am always on the go and will most likely be going overseas in a few months so I really want email access so I can control everything.

I'd really like on-the-go access to email, and also at least some form of Web browsing.
