I can't think of other things at the moment that get confused between whether they're a fruit or vegetable... but one way to tell the difference is that most fruits have seeds and vegetables usually don't... (or so I think...) I could be wrong, but it seems that way... example of fruits with seeds: apples, grapes (some), tomatoes, oranges (have pits), watermelons, etc. etc...

Many root vegetables can be stored through winter in a root cellar. Care should be taken in understanding the properties and vulnerabilities of the particular roots to be stored. Many can last through to early spring and be nearly as nutritious as when fresh. Potatoes should be stored in a dark, cool, and dry place to prevent mold, greening and sprouting. Other root vegetables can be stored in a similar manner.
