For all bloggers, do you also consider your site layout as a factor to getting visitors and readers? If yes, do you create your own site design with HTML/CSS or just depend on your blog hosting site's pre-made templates? Personally, I want my blog site to be aesthetically competitive. I think it also adds up to getting people visit your site.

I think it is important, but I tend to make it reflect the way I am. Like I like certian colors so I will use those. Or, like myspace, I have my background my sca device with the kingdom colors. I also have pics on it from the sca and horror movies. I think it should reflect your likes/dislikes but not be too overpowering for others to like it.

Yes, I consider the site layout as a very important factor to get visitors and 'earn' the regular visitors. Having a good layout ensures the readability and accessibility of content too. Most of the ready made blog designs fulfill these requirements to a certain extent. These are very generalized designs and colors which may not suit every subject. Someone who is familiar with web designing and coding can very easily update this look and feel and make the blog stand out so the users remember it.
