What laptop / notebook do you recommend I buy?

I need to buy a new laptop for my son, his old Dell died after just over a year and I stupidly didn't buy a 3 year warranty so Dell won't help. It's a hardware fault (well several) so not worth repairing. So what should I go for? Open to any ideas apart from Dell obviously.

Acer is really good.But why do you want a laptop for your son?Laptops arnt really practical unless for businessmen.I would stick to a really powerful desktop

Um, I never really considered a desktop, but it would be better as they're more robust and cheaper. I might look into it. Thanks for that.

That sony vaio costs you around £1,800 and weighs 2kg.Now thats the laptop shown in casino royale.Your son might like it and would consider it cool,but my point is that at the same price you can buy really powerful laptops with lots of accessories.So ask your son whether he wants a laptop or a powerful desktop.

correction in the previous post read it as powerful desktop instead of powerful laptop
