Do you pay for TV in your country? How much?

In the UK and other countries you have to pay a yearly fee for having a TV or receiving a signal. In the US, broadcast TV is free, but many people pay for cable or satellite programming. Do you have to pay for basic TV in your country?

Same in the U.S. Most Americans have cable or satellite TV though, because it gives a lot more channels.

That's a good deal, compared to what I'm paying. If I wanted digital, a DVR, and extra channels I'd be paying probably $110 or more. Of course, my cable company also owns an NBA team, and NHL team, etc. etc. so maybe I'm subsidizing all their superstar contracts, LOL.

Thanks for responding. I guess they can cut off your signal if you don't pay, right?

We have free tv here in the US but the channels are limited and dependent upon where you live. We have cable tv where I'm at for about $50 a month. We have cable and cable computer connection for a total of $85 a month. Sattelite aka Dish is a little bit cheaper.

I'm in NJ and pay $50 a month for cable. I'd really like a cheaper option with fewer channels (I really don't need 100 stations), but the only other choice is just getting the broadcast channels and that costs $20 or so. I can save money by getting TV, phone, and Internet all over the cable, but if there's a power failure or cable outage, there's no way to communicate. Maybe I'd have to learn smoke signals...

I get a number of channels for free, but most people have cable or satellite because there are a lot of tall buildings nearby that make it difficult to get good broadcast reception.

In india also same. Here we pay for cable operators only. All most all are free channels only.

In Ireland you have to buy a TV licence which is €152.00 and then pay a provider for your channels. Im with NTL who give a basic package for €38 every 2 months oand Im subscribed to their digital service which gives about 100 more stations for an extra €15 every two months. I know other countries are a lot cheaoer but this is Ireland and EVERYTHING is more expensive here.

Thanks for responding. That sounds pretty expensive for a TV license, esp. if you have to pay for channels on top of it. Have things in Ireland gotten more expensive because of the recent economic boom? A lot of Irish people used to come to the US for jobs, now a lot of them are going back home becasue theres more work there.
