Waiting in line for days to buy something.

Why do people stand in line for days just to get the "latest" new gadget, toy, game or whatever? I recently read an article about people standing in line for the new playstation and the new Wii (spelling?). I just can't understand why people would campout in line for days, freezing their bottoms off to buy a game. What is the urgency in getting it first?

Me too. I don't see the sense in standing in lline for days just to pay a higher price when I know in a few months that it will be cheaper. Plus waiting gives you time to see what bugs will pop up in these new products.

When a Louis Vuitton store opened in Japan some years ago, newspaper covered pictured of women willing to spend the night on the street in front of the shop to be the first buyer in the next morning. Different people and stuff, same attitude... I think it's correlated with Pride and about getting Acknowledgment for our worth. Like your case, maybe a father was willing to do it so that he earns the title a good father. Although the professed reason might be to make his kid happy, but quite unconciously he actually also thinks of acknowledgment from his kid. And of course the proud feeling for being called a good father. I'm not saying Pride is totally bad, we are created to have it, too. It becomes bad because without God's grace we are controlled by it.

Years ago my good friend of mine would bring her kids over to my house to spend the night. She would go to the local store to wait in line for a chance to buy the newest Cabbage Patch Kid. They were expensive too! My kids got the knock off's instead of the Cabbage Patch Kids. We waited for the price to go down and the dolls to become more available. I never understood why anyone needed to get something so bad that they would stay up for hours standing outside in the cold weather to buy it.
