Why do tv shows take a bread during the end of December?

I think it's because they believe people will be too busy spending time with family over the holidays to watch the shows, and it's also the time when there are holiday specials. So, the people watching tv might be more likely to watch holiday movies than the regular shows, so they wait until January, when it's more likely that their viewership will be back up to normal.
