Bare with me and pardon my ignorance but there isn't a lot I know about cats. Now we got our cat (female) a year and a half ago. She has had all her shots. Now last winter she started going into heat. Now all she would do is howl or whatever.
This would happen every few weeks but after a couple of months it stopped completely. I was going to get her fixed in August when she had her shots but my son kept saying no she's over it and it won't happen again. Ok I know your laughing now. But he obviously knows as much about cats as I do. Well after several months of nothing two weeks ago she went into heat again. After a few days she was done and now today she started again. Anyways I was going to do the laundry tonight and as I was putting my sons jeans in the washer I smelt them and she obviously sprayed on them (or whatever it is they do) Now she has never done this before. So my question is what does this mean?? Will she spray everytime now or is this just a fluke thing?? Or should I just get her fixed as soon as possible. Believe me I'm a clean freak and the smell of cat urine is NOT going to be in my house. I have to do something. Please help!! Thanks.

You need to get her fixed as soon as possible.I have never heard of a female cat spraying, usually the males do that to mark their territory. Are you sure it's a girl?.It sounds to me like you have a male and the howling, screeching sound is him calling out to a possible mate.Either way you need to get your cat desexed.

Yes, female cats do spray. I was told this by two vets. And when in heat, they do this to attract males.

I'm just seeing this as well.
I hope you got her fixed. Cat over-population is a huge problem and personally, I think cats that have been fixed are nicer anyhow. I have had un-altered cats and now I have a little female that I adopted from the shelter - she is fixed and by far the best cat I have ever owned. I recommend if for so many different benefits.
Cats that aren't fixed will continue to go into heat, make alot of noise, aren't very friendly during that time and are at risk of becoming pregnant or getting another cat pregnant. The urine smell from the spraying is a pain in the you-know-what to get rid of so that is another reason to get them fixed.
If you are a clean freak then you will not want to have a pregnant cat running around your home nor will you want to have a cat that goes into labor in your home because it is messy and smelling and not very clean.
So without sounding like a broken record - just get her fixed ASAP if you haven't already. It's not that expensive and it's WELL worth it. I think I paid about $20 to have my cat done - best choice I ever made.
Good luck!

This was posted 3 months ago, and I have just seen it. Have you fixed her since then? I hope so, as the urine is what attracts the males to her. You can have lots of males come around too.
