I was thinking of getting a puppy around christmas time for my daughter (and me) I am going to be starting school soon and will be very busy with that but I work at home so I would be withthe puppy all day. What do you think?

There are lots of things to consider first. Having a puppy is much like having a baby. They need a lot of time for playing, training, exercise, and grooming. Don't forget feeding and Vetting can get expensive. Also, be sure to find a pup that 'fits' your lifestyle. I mean, if you have a two year old, you won't want a large breed dog that will knock her down and outgrow her in size in one year. There are sites to see if you are ready for a dog, which one is right for you, and tips for training. If you aren't very active, you may not want to get a Jack Russell Terrier. I want to add that you may want to consider adopting a pet from your local shelter. You may find an older, trained dog that is more suited. Plus, most shelters will flea treat, vaccinate, and possibly spay or neuter them. Here are some of the above mentioned sites: http://www.thepetcenter.com/imtop/match.html http://www.soyouwanna.com/SITE/syws/rightdog/rightdog.html http://www.rescuinganimalsinneed.org/is_a_dog_for_me.htm http://www.petfinder.com/

We have not regretted getting a dog. They do take a lot of your time, but the love you get from them in return is worth it.Just be careful on the type of dog you pick..some have a mind of their own,and are hard to train.good luck!

puppies are great, but they're a lot of work especially when you first bring them home. they want a lot of attention. If you crate train them, house training is a lot easier. if you work at home i think you should go for it, you'll love having the company.

how old is your daughter.?. a puppy would be a present that she would love, but... she most likely is too young to take on any of the responsibility of having a puppy. she will play with it and not much more. this will then put all the cleaning, training and such on you. and if you're starting school soon, and work at home, it may be best to focus on that and take care of your daughter. if you dont plan on getting a puppy, dont even mention anything about it...they will instantly want one...

As long as you and your daughter want it and will be caring for it, then I think you should go for it. I don't know how old your daughter is, but I hope she realizes that puppies very quickly grow up and become older dogs, and the she will be responsible for caring for this one for years to come - like maybe ten years or more.

Well, If you are going to be gone alot it is not a good idea, because puppies require lots of attention and it takes awhile to potty train them, but if you will have the time to spend with a puppy, than I see no problem. Good luck

As long as you dont mind being the one to take care of it and have the time to do it. Than get her a puppy.

It would make a wonderful gift for your daughter and since you work from home..you'll be able to give the puppy the attention it needs..but keeping a pet is hard work and unless you're dedicated..things are going to be tough

Puppies are just like babies. They need constant supervision at first. They need to be told right from wrong otherwise you'll have an unruly dog instead of that playful puppy. As long as you don't leave it home alone for long periods of time u should be good.

I would say go for it. I love my dog. Do reascearch first. Make sure you get a dog breed that is good with children. I suggest crate training it so when you are at school it does not mess up the house. Make sure you are ready because it is a big expense and a lot more work then you think.

It all depends on how old your girl is. If she's under 8, I wouldn't. She might end up pulling the dogs tail and getting bit.

I say as long as you can handle it go for it! I have 3 children ages 7 and under and I happen to have 3 dogs. One is my feonce's and am getting my children an indoor dog the end of november. It will be a boston terrier, very well known for being well behaved in the house and very good with children. I handle it all pretty well and nothing ever gets in my way of spending time with my family or my dogs and they never go without anything. So yeah if you can provide for it emotionally and financially then I think it would be great!

Yea, getting a puppy would be a great idea. But you wold need a trainer first to teach it some basic habits. I taught my dog everything myself, but I'm a kid (grown up, I'm 17), not an adult like you. And I've always had affection for animals. But I have always seen people of your age group being impatient(at least around me) while training. So you should get a trainer.
