Dr. K. J. Yesudass is far more widely known as a pop crooner of the Malayalam film industry. He may be the single most popular singer of southern India. Born a Christian, Yesudass has participated in many Hindu ceremonies, including the annual Tyagaraja Aradhana, a celebration of the 19th century composer Tyagaraja. His Karnatak performances are up to the highest musical standards, as these recordings demonstrate.

I remember my college days when the famous Malayalam singer Yesudas conducted an orchestra in our college during the 1970s. He is a gifted singer, philosopher and a philanthropist. He conducts tharangini in Kerala. His son is also a singer. His songs have a charisma when heard. Eventhough he is aged more than 60 he seems to be a young boy of 18. He is very devotional to his music. We all have something to study and earn from him. To him religion is not for identification. It is a belief and way of living.I remember one of his comments he made to the press during an Interview. Somebody told him he is great. Then his answer was like this,"The universe is so wide that the earth is just like a dot. The earth is so big that our country itself is so small. Considering all this I am so small that I cannot say I am a dot in the Universe. How great and real those words are.
