Does a crucifix have any real power. We got one this weekend for my daughter's room because she's in a stage where she's scared of monsters and we told her it would keep them away.

I don't really know if the crucifix has any real power or not or if it is just a symbol of ones religion. A imagination is a great thing in a child until it starts interfereing with their sleep and I think you did the right thing because she knows that it has to do with Jesus so she will use her imagination to image Jesus slaying her monsters or alteast scaring them away and she will get more and better sleep for it. If it works use it as they say. I have 3 pictures of Jesus in mine that gives me peace.

She's only 2 so we really haven't gotten into a discussion about Jesus yet. I'm hoping to get her a toddler bible so I can start reading her some of the stories.

The crucifix is a sacramental, it has no "power" of its own. The power is in the Faith and comes from God. The crucifix can be a comfort and also help to stir up that Faith (of power) if the crucifix is duly blessed God may allow you to use it as an instrument of His protection - but still it is not the thing that possesses any power, but God the Omnipotent.
