Acid/Lignin Free.... mom made scrapbooks before such terms were made

My ancestors made scrapbooks ... they didn't use acid/lignin free products. Why should I be so concerned about this? I can get lots of lower cost scrapbooking products that aren't free of acid/lignin. Why shouldn't I use them, if I take care to put a backing on the photos so they don't touch these things?

I'm with you on this. I don't think you have to buy the acid free stuff; maybe the scrapbooks last longer if you do, but I guess that stuff has mainly been invented for reasons of money making ;)

Regina, Thank you! I'm so glad to see someone else thinks like I do. You can be my new best friend. LOL! I think it is all a ploy to make money off people. It might last longer, but after 50 years, I'm not going to care anyhow.

I have to admit I'm rather surprised I havne't gotten anyone defending the acid/lignin free stuff. I'm surprised, though, NOT disappointed... SMILE!

I'm not a scrapbooker, but I remember reading that acid free paper will keep your photos in better shape longer, they will not yellow and become brittle as quickly.
