Siberians are generally a good breed with children. Tolerant and patient with little one, the vast majority of the time they would get up and walk away if they felt the play was getting too boisterous or they were losing patience. Teach your kids from the beginning to respect the dog's space and they have a playmate for the next 12 years. Siberians biting children is the exception rather than the rule, many of the stories in the media about 'huskies' biting, hurting or killing children are generally really not 'huskies' but are husky types, usually crossed with German Shepherds, Akitas, etc but because of the upright ears and double coat are often classified as a husky out of pure ignorance. Siberian Huskies are unfortunately the only nordic breed with 'husky' in their name and as such, any husky type mentioned in the news automatically makes people believe that it was a Siberian Husky involved when that's almost never the case. It's like with pitbulls... 3/4 of the time, the 'pitbull' mentioned in the news is actually another breed but because of their appearance becomes classified as a pitbull, again, out of ignorance. It's sad, because of the public's ignorance towards what differentiates different breeds, Breed Specific Legislation is slowly but surely going to take away the responsible dog owner's rights to owning the breed they love. Educate yourself before you decide a Siberian is right for you.. there's a ton of information online.

I have 2 huskies. Our female is 3 years old and our male is 8 months. I think that it's better to get them as puppies and raise them because then you feel more secure and you know how they were raised. Both of our huskies can be around infants. In fact, we've had a 2 month old baby on the floor with the dogs, and they were great. The worst our dogs have EVER done, was to get excited and they jumped up on a kid, and knocked them over. But the kid just laughed and kept playing with the dogs. I think they are the best dogs in the world.
