Words that look as if they are misspelled

Divers (look is up, it has the same meaning as diverse) Can anyone suggest other words ? possibly in other languages ?

words like "pencel" or "pensil" would both do - they look like obvious mispellings, but have meanings.. come on, help me out here.

One of the more common spelling issues is the Americanization of many words by removing the U when it's combined with O. While both versions of the word are correct and acceptable (depending on where you are), it's more common in the US to remove the U from words such as "favourite".

yeah, I know about OU vs O and S vs Z, but I meant other word pairs, like divers - diverse which are not an English/American spelling issue, but rather a different word altoghether.
