Some say there is a crisis in publishing, especially in the periodicals market. Circulation rates are down, and publishers are closing. Are people reading less, or is it because of the Internet taking away readers? Are there any other problems that are ruining the publishing industry?

Considering there now seems to be a magazine for virtually area of life, the magazine industry seems to be booming. The product has to be good otherwise people won't buy it and that has always been true and it has to establish itself as a quality title that will ensure its survival. The internet has created a different kind of market, there will always be magazines and newspapers. They can offer more than the internet at the moment and being portable is their biggest selling point, that is why they will always be there.

I'm still an avid magazine reader. Even if I had a lap-top, I wouldn't want to take it to the park or beach, and I certainly wouldn't want to hold it up over my face lying in bed. :)

People are becoming stupider. Can't sell books or magazines to people who can't read proper.

I think the the magazines, newspapers and book aren't outdated. I think that they have good position on the market, because a lot of people like to read news and poems on paper not particularly on computer screen. Of course internet decries number of readers. The real challenge for newspapers will be in near future when electronicall paper will be invented.

In countries where the Internet is widely used then I suppose that will be a factor in falling circulation. Also satellite tv with 24 hour news channels plays a part and there are so many magazine type programmes on satellite tv as well. Personally I find the internet ok for short snippets of news and information but I still buy newspapers. I still buy books as well.
