DO YOU USE PLASTIC CARRY BAGS?

BAGS - PLASTIC
India

Thin plastic carry bag has become an intrinsic part of our lives and the urban landscapes. It is one of the most ignored environmental and health problems. Almost everyone including chemists, grocers, vegetable/fruit vendors, restaurants, fast food centers and super markets, put everything we buy in plastic carry bags, as they find it cheaper, easier and cleaner to get them. Even the temples give away "Prasadams" in them. The colourful plastic carry bags can be seen littered around carelessly. They cause more harm when they are strewn allover. But people, unmindful of their hazardous nature, are liberally accepting plastic bags and discarding them all around carelessly

I am fully aware of the environmental issues concerning carrier bags, but due to the prolific use of them by every supermarket I feel obliged to use them. I would not consider discarding such an item carelessly, instead I usually fill them with rubbish before placing them in the dustbin. This way they actually serve a worthwhile purpose. Plastic packaging is a similar problem, but despite everyone agreeing about the problem major companies still insist on excessive packaging that even makes access to the purchased item difficult. What options do consumers have when all manufacturers offer the same overpackaged products?

I use them and when i get home i reuse them as garbage bags. I find it handy sometimes if i get alot of stuff i just get paper but most places give plastic so i figure i might as well reuse them.

If people are mostly habituated with this wonderful invention of Polymer-Science, let them use it. But my advice is to collect it safely after use and make a junk-stock to reduce its random contamination with our environment. When more quantity accumulates in junk-stock, it can be sold / handedover to the persons collecting it for recycling proces in making of other useful items. Thanks.

I use it because that the only packaging available in our area. I'm aware about the disadvantage but what i can do? should be the mayors, congressmen start implementing the ban of this packaging. I heard in Philippines, there's one food chain which started to change their packing to paperbags and recycable and biodegradable materials.

I use my plastic bags from stores as garbage can liners, and give them to the place I volunteer for them to distribute baby items in. I'm not sure where they end up from there, but at least they are getting a little more use. And when my husband is home to help carry the groceries, I always use paper (which my grocery store does encourage, kudos to them).

Thin-Plastic-Carry Bags - I hate using thin-plastic-carry bags which we get from the grocers, medical shops and fruit/sweet shops.

Iam totally against the usage of plastic carry bags. When I go out to market either I carry a bag or I will get it in the box.

First of all I will try to avoid it, if forcible given, I have a seperate bin for keeping only the thin plastic covers, once the bin is complete, i will wait for the environment people to come or else I will sell the thin-plastics in the paper mart, where they give very few money for the thin-plastic carry bags. I never through them out, bcoz i know well that the thin plastics surely will spoil the environment.

I think the old-paper-people either recycle or they will properly dispose the plastic carry bags.

sometimes i have no choice. To reduce the white pollution, government should take action to close the plastic bag factory & prohibite its usage in such as supermarket.

my state is a tourist destination and it was turning into a garbage dump with all the plastic, but the government behaved wisely and put a complete ban on plastic bags and believe me when i say that the place looks thousands time better after two years of the continuing ban. financial punishment is i gues sthe best way to stop people from littering the place with garbage. in my state the fine for throwing and using polybags is nearly 10$. and if the shopkeepers and the stores use poly bags they are fined anything between 250$ - 500$.

I have made figures of stuffed clothing. Some look like scarecrows, some scary for Halloween, some like cowboys in jeans, and some made like Santa Claus. Stuffed with plastic bags, they are lightweight and will not get waterlogged as the outside clothing will dry quickly. I usually give them away but always have one in my yard. They can be redressed, more bags added if needed, and will last several years even outside

In Germany they recycle plastic bags so it is not a problem. i think other countries should follow the example and improve recycling. we people should also discourage its use if there is no proper recycling

I agree with you. I had gone to the groery store near by and suggested to the manager that if the customer comes with his own canvas tote and takes grocery in them, you should give some discount .10cents or so on. I have seen happening at couple of small stores in maryland. We all need to make the decision and make the place we live better, I take canvast tote bag and get everything in them. I also say no to plastic bag if I have bought one item. I know we can not escape from using it, just recycle it too that helps too.
