How would you handle a pedophile in your neighborhood?

This is a topic that came up in one of the mom groups I belong too, and I'd like to see what others would do in this situation. One of the ladies mentioned that a "pedophile" (I'm assuming that meant he's on the registry) lives a few houses away from them. One of her neighbors approached him and asked him for some information, for the safety of her children. He said that it was *I believe* a 17 year old that falsly accused him. He said nothing happened. She mentioned that he has a couple of sons, (around the 5-7 age group) but no one in the neighborhood will play with them because of what they "know" about the dad. They essentially have no friends. That's the basic nutshell, sorry I'm hazy on some of the facts, 12 hours of cropping kind of turns your mind to mush. So my question is.....would you allow your kids to play with his kids? Why or why not?

As long as I could supervise and could see my children at all times I would have no problem with them playing. I used to live in an area that within 1 square mile there were over 80. So needless to say the kids did not get anywhere out of our site.
