What is forgivness? How do you forgive someone?

I am going through a hard time right now. I have someone in my life that has done some hurtful, dishonest things to me. I am becoming more religious and would like to forgive this person. I love him to death but I can not trust him anymore and hold some bad feelings towards him. So I have been wondering can you forgive someone and still not trust them? What does forgiveness mean? Any tips on forgiving someone? I am so hurt by his actions that I am finding it hard to forgive him.
