I have suffered with Fibromyalgia for approximately four years now. It has been very difficult to deal with the day-to-day pain and the many other symptoms that are associated with Fibromyalgia. The good news is that, after four years, I still feel as if I am going strong and am very proud of that.
In the time that I have dealt with Fibromyalgia, I have been given advice by family members, friends, and healthcare professionals. Some of the ideas have been helpful and some have not. In this post, I will be reviewing some of the suggestions that I have received that may help with the overall symptoms of Fibromyalgia. If you have any experiences, suggestions, and/or stories that you would like to add, please feel free to do so.
One of the first and most effective methods of dealing effectively with Fibromyalgia is to engage is some sort of physical activity. Physical activity can be anything from cleaning your house to jogging a couple of miles. Pain seems to settle more in your body if you are inactive. For the Fibromyalgia sufferer, being able to perform any physical task is an accomplishment. Being active in one form or another not only helps with pain, but will boost your self-confidence as well.
Another thing that you can do to deal effectively with Fibromyalgia is to drink plenty of fluids. It is important to be cautious with fluids that contain a lot of sugar and caffeine as these ingredients can actually cause your Fibromyalgia to flare up. Drinking water and natural fruit juices can be extremely beneficial in dealing effectively with Fibromyalgia.
Another way to deal effectively with Fibromyalgia is to sit down and talk to your friends and family members about your illness and how it affects you. Fibromyalgia is often referred to as the “invisible illness”. This means that the sufferer of Fibromyalgia often does not show any outward signs that they are sick. If people see that you look fine on the outside, they may think that you are. They may not realize what you are dealing with on the inside. It is important to express to your family and friends that you do have some limitations. Express that you may not always be able to make plans with them and perform certain activities. They are sure to understand and this makes the illness easier to deal with later on.
There are numerous ways that you can deal effectively with Fibromyalgia. You know and understand what you are capable of and probably have tried many things to alleviate the overall symptoms of the illness. If you follow the above listed suggestions in addition to the methods that you are already using, you are sure to find some form of relief and deal effectively with Fibromyalgia.

I have had Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for over 16 years. The pain can be extremely hard to deal with. I am having some major back pain and problems right now. It can be frustrating dealing with these diseases because many people do not understand and can't comprehend how a person can be in pain all of the time, fatigued all of the time, and never feel good. I have worked very hard at trying to maintain a positive attitude through it all, but some days it is tough. Almost two years ago, I started going for treatment at the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers. I have found the doctors to be extremely empathetic, caring, and they don't look at you as if you have two heads! It is really expensive, though. That is the only down side to going there. The one treatment they offer that I have benefited the most from are their IV therapies that they offer. Their website is www.fibroandfatigue.com/.

You are very welcome! I think that although family members and other who do not suffer with Fibromyalgia mean well, they really can't help a whole lot. That is why I always try to talk to others who suffer with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other chronic illnesses. We need to talk to people that understand, truly understand, what it is like. Good luck to you!
