My friend told her daughter that since she was a big girl she didn't need it anymore and there were babies who really needed them. She had a big talk with her about helping all the babies who needed pacifiers and then they gathered up all her pacifiers and wrapped them up as a present. Her daughter got really into it and she was so proud of herself that it made the change alot easier. My friend hauled the box around in her trunk for months.
Your right about her talking. Without the pacifier in her mouth, the muscles in her tounge and her mouth will get stronger and she'll talk much better. Good Luck!!!

You should tell her that their are other babies who need binky's and she should help them out by giving her binky's to the Binky Fairy and if she does then the Binky Fairy will leave her a present. I saw this on that show Supernanny it worked for the little girl on there.

yea...I saw this one too but that little girl was a little older and had more of a vocabulary than my girl. I think she watched it with us and still didn't help but if it goes on a little while longer she might understand.

No I wouldnt throw it away.
Have you ever heard of that stuff you put on someone's finger nails to discourage them from biting them? It is something that tastes yucky. Why not try doing that to her binkey? Just dont let her see you put something on it.
Just a suggestion

We just went through this with my grandson when he was 2 and still wanted a pacifier. What my daughter did was tell him one day that he was a big boy now and that he could have his binky until the next time daddy was home all day from work...then he wouldn't be allowed to have it anymore. This worked well for them, and when daddy finally had Saturday off, he reminded him that this was the day he had to give up his pacifier. He did! And they stuck it in a 'special place' so that he knew it was still there and OK, even though he couldn't use it. Worked OK for them, but of course, all 2 year olds are different. Good luck!

this is good..when she is talking we tell her to take it out so we can hear her talk and she hands it right to one of us.

Just an idea what maybe you could have it that she has to leave her pacifier out on christmas eve and Santa will come and take it and leave behind something for her! Good luck my son was never big on his pacifer and he lost one one day and before i had a chance to replace it i realised he didnt want or need it!

this just recently happened as well. Two weeks ago she fell sick and we lost it. We couldn't replace it if we wanted to since it hard to find and not realy being reproduced. She didn't take to the nuk orthodonic ones' and just gave up on the idea. I found it yesterday in her stuffed animals and put it up in her memory box. She now is using four times the words she did prior to. SHe even tries sentences. Thank Heavens for blessings in disguise.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, older kids tend to suck on pacifiers when they're bored. Try to anticipate times when you know your child will be bored and offer more interesting activities as substitutes. If you're waiting in line at the post office, for example, give him a book to page through or make funny faces at him instead of handing him his pacifier.
Some kids suck on their pacifiers when they're feeling insecure. If he seems to turn to his binky when he's worried or scared, help him put his emotions into words. Ask questions to find out what'd really going on inside, and reassure him with hugs and kisses.
To curb his reliance on it, praise him when he manages not to have one in his mouth. You might also limit pacifier times to nighttime and nap time, telling him, "We're going to stop taking our pacifier with us to daycare and out on errands but keep it special for private times." When you're ready to phase it out completely, try using a calendar to keep track of pacifier-free days and reward him with a gold sticker or an extra half-hour of reading before bed. (You could also promise your child a reward such as a toy or video night when he amasses a week's worth of stars.)

Thankyou for your reponse, since I posted this for two weeks now we have been binky free! We lost it during a virus and are doing quite well thanks. Now we are trying to work on the potty training and that is even harder. She only liked one specific type and all the others that were around wasn't desireable to her so she gave up on it. Thanks for your well written advice!

Honestly.. throw them all away and just say no. I accidently stopped givng my dauther her binky. I got lazy for a few days and just wouldn't give it to her. Now she wont even take it. It will only be a few days that she'll scream and freak out. But it's for the better. Two years old is too old for a binky.

What I did with all mine is I kept thier cups full of water and I would tell them if they wanted thier cup that they had to give me the passy well after a while they would start playing and forget about the passy.

What we did was cut off a small piece of the tips. Then when she tried to suck them they didnt work right and she gave them to us saying it was broken. She stopped using them within a few days.
