Domestic Violence is NOT just occurring on females!

I posted this in response to a friend's discussion on domestic violence, but I think it is worth reposting. People need to be aware that this is a problem too.
I worked in low income housing for a few years and there was a man who had defended himself from his wife once and she had him arrested for abuse. After he was released and went through months of "rehab" he was able to move back in with his kids.
After that every time she beat him, he just took it. The guy would come into my office covered in bruises and full of excuses as to how it happened. The neighbors would complain of her throwing items and yelling at all hours of the night.
The one time he tried to leave, she beat the kids to "make him pay".
The worst part is, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it because she was only 5'2" and he was over 6' tall. I called the cops on her once because I had gotten so many noise complaints but they said there was nothing they could do unless abuse could be proven and the husband was scared to death to say anything against her.
That is the most extreme case I have dealt with, but I have seen many other cases as well. I encourage ANYONE who suspects domestic violence to report it. Enough reports and it can't be ignored.

Ah, gender double standards!
I hate the idea that women can't abuse men. Thousands of men are abused for their wives, but it goes unnoticed and no one reports on it. There's this whole 'men can beat off a woman' argument, which doesn't take into account the fact that men are conditioned to endure bodily harm rather than raise their hand against a woman. Regardless of the circumstances.
Domestic violence goes both ways. There needs to be more attention given to the subject.

I really wish it would be given more attention.
From what I have seen most of the guys that are being beat are afraid of fighting back or leaving because they will be stripped of their parental rights or jailed.

or they will somehow end up leaving their kids with an abusive mother.

I don't blame them for those fears. When it comes to abuse, the law tends to side with the woman.

It is sad that domestic violence excist at all, but i am also aware of the fact that it goes both ways. Unfortunatley this is not very known, mostly because the guys do not come forward!

True, it doesn't do much for the manly pride and bringing it into a public light hurts even more. I think we as a society have to change our projected expectations of male behavior in order to change this.

My husband said "yeah, you call the cops for something like that and when they get done laughing at you, they ignore it."

And a lot of times when men do come forward, it's shrugged off and not investigated.
