The Gloomy Christmas for My boss (Kids wouldn't be around)

This morning my boss asks me to come around during xmas day. He insists because he told me that his kids informed him they wouldn't be able to come around. They have another xmas celebration with their own fam. How poor my boss is! Of course I can come to accompany his loneliness (i have no activities during xmas, because I am moslem). But the key problem is not I will be there or not, it has been a year he haven't met the kids. The last time he met was last xmas, when he with me went to his sister's happy holidays' celebration. The older he is, the more miserable his life is.
