Wired or Wireless Lan which is better?

Wired or Wireless - Hi frieds,

This seems to be a bit technical. I just want to know the growth of the wireless connection in the world.
I have applied for a broadband wireless connection, initially we tried with wireless, but due to various security reason we shifted to wired. I want to know the level of security which is available in other countries with regard to wireless lans ( Internet connectivity ) and also the connection speed.

Please share your thoughts.

It all depends. In general wired networking is probably best unless being mobile is critical to your operations. The biggest problem with wireless is security and signal strength. In most cases using an encryped wireless connection will surffice for most security needs...but you never know what people are able to do. The other major problem is signal attenuation and interference. There are so many factors that can limit the strength of your signal...not to mention the fact that the max throughput is 54 Mbps. The only reason why you should go with wireless is if you need to be mobile.

Yes, I do agree, but if u see the news happening around the world, the world is marching towards wireless, even in our office we have wireless connectivity on the public bandwidth 2.4ghz frequency but the security is again a issue. We are spending more time on the security issues. I agree with your comment. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

i think you can combine wired and wireless..use wireless for a big room or hall and wired for critical section.

WIFI - Wireless lan
for me i prefer wireless lan than wired, i lessen the space for the wire, but the only disadvantege of wireless lan is, it only have a range limit

Wired is defiantly better. With wireless you gotta deal with random disconnects and so on... wired is also faster ;)

Wired networks are faster since data travels in transmission lines. Your mobility will be limited since, well, you're using wires.

Wired is the preferred choice for network consisting of desktop as wired gives you a lot more security and reliability currently. But very soon wireless technology will become popular because of the upcoming technology new security measures also very strong data encryption techniques will be implemented. New protocols have been implemented for secure and safe wireless communication. With 802.11n and higher technologies, high speeds and long range wireless communication are possible. Currently though wired seems to be better soon wireless will rule with dipping prices of wireless equipment.

I am definitely a big fan of the wireless. I have a G router now and have had a wireless of one form or another for 4-5 years. Soo much easier and more flexible to work with with computers, printers and more.

Wireless is really good. Coz i used to have wires running all over my house, and it frustratate me when i need to do housekeeping & it's a sore to eyes. With wireless connection, it could save you from having this headache. I think you should learn how to set the wireless security feature right, like turnning off the broadcast, use WEP key encryption, turning on MAC address filter & etc. There are lot of stuff you could set in the firewall setting of your router so other people could hardly invade your wireless network. Besides, setting strong password for every PC in your network is also important. Right now the wire connection is still faster than the wireless. (100Mbps vs 54Mbps) but it is still considered ok for me now. The other drawback of wireless is the radiation, which might jeopardize our health in long term (who knows?)

As long as your connection is password enabled and secured... its safe enough. Having wireless is very convenient... in Singapore... they have opened up more than 500 hotspots where pple can access Wireless internet...so you can see how good it is!

Wireless is definitely the future but there are still quite a few bugs that need to be worked on in the technology.

how you can configure wired and wireless lan in sm - how you can configure wired and wireless lan in small office, i think this will clear the concept
well i think it can vary according to requiremnt, i would prefer wireless connection for laptops and wired for desktop! both are rigth at their places! but about security i think taking connection from ISP,they have enough security issues with them! so not to worry about that! if you are still not satisfied then you can use some authentication mode for loggin in and out in range!

Yes, I agree, If I had planned for two plant to plant connection at different locations, I would have definitely consulted an ISP, my case is for the factory zone ( Inside shop floor). Our corporate office and factory is togather.
