Why do people name their kids such strange names now a days?

I think people name their kids strange names because they like them their kids to be 'different', although unfortunately little do they realise how silly they sound! I did hear someone call their son Nike the other day!! (pronouncing it Nigh-kee) It's such a shame as I laughed when I heard it and no doubt lots of others will too!

There are a lot of weird names that are gaining in popularity. I like some of the unusual names,but some sound just plain silly. Stars seem to be especially prone to giving their kids weird names.For instance,"Apple" -- YIKES!

Because having a unique name is a good thing. Why does it matter who names their child what? I like meeting different people with a unique name. Everyone is different.

Being unique is a good thing, its nice to have a fresh and different type of name everyonce in a while...but sometimes parents cross that border from "unique" into "weird". If you think the name might hinder a child growing up, then it probably isn't a good choice.
