I am currently trying to ween my daughter from nursing. She just turned 1 on Aug. 31st and the doctors say that she is now able to handle drinking cow milk. My main reason for wanting to go ahead and ween her is because you can not take diet pills while still nursing and because of my own health I really need to lose weight. I know breastfeeding is the best for my daughter but having her mommy around is more important I think and now that she is able to drink regular milk that it should be alright for me to go ahead with weening her so that I may concentrate on trying to get my health in order. Soo anyway I was wondering if anyone has any tips for weening a baby...Thank you!!

Have you started the process at all? How many times are you nursing now? I weaned my kids all right around a year, by then we were only nursing 1 or 2 times a day. If you are nursing more it is best for both of you to cut out one feeding at a time. Wait a week or so and cut out another until you are done. At this point I would switch to milk in a cup not a bottle. My first used nursing as a comfort to go to sleep. He was hard to wean. My husband had to be the one to put him down at night and he would scream. He would go comfort him at increasing intervals. 5 minutes, then 10, 15 ect. It took about three nights of this and then he went to sleep easily. Good luck!
