MISS INDIA UK SCOOPS WORLDWIDE CROWN Miss India UK, Amrita Hunjan, aged 20 scooped the Miss India Worldwide Crown at the Bollywood star studded gala event held at the Tulip Star Hotel in Mumbai on Sunday 10th January. Stunning Amrita a student of dentistry at the University of Birmingham born in Leeds (Britain), wrested away the title with her incredibly natural flair, beauty and talent. The runners-up were Miss India-Netherlands Reshma Vliet in second place and Miss India-Singapore Thebashini Jeevan taking the third prize. The contestants came from Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, India, Germany, Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore, South Africa, Portugal, France, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the US and Britain. All graduates, ranging from doctors to lawyers and tax accountants, they went through several segments over three days, doing talent items, modelling eastern and western wear, and finally answering questions to enable a panel of judges to decide the winner. Amrita a hugely talented singer hypnotized the judges and wooed the audience by singing Maria Mckee’s hit single ‘Show Me Heaven’ from the movie Days of Thunder, with all of the judges awarding her maximum points and giving her also the Miss India Worldwide talent award as well as Miss India Worldwide 2005 The judges included Bollywood personalities Dino Morea, Preeti Jhangiani, Sanjay Suri and Aarti Chabria. ‘Amrita is an amazingly talent, a natural star, with a tremendous stage presence, no one has ever seen a Indian woman sing like that before, she has the world at her feet, and will be the first ever mainstream Indian pop star for sure’ Vanita Panchal, National Director of Miss India UK and Queens Achievement Winner Down to earth Amrita says ‘There was a lot of expectation on me in the UK to win this event and winning the Miss India Worldwide crown in Mumbai is truly a fairytale ending, I am truly delighted’ says Amrita. ‘Amrita is a rare talent she stood out from the rest of the finalists, she was completely focused and her performance was simply outstanding, she gave everyone in the audience goose bumps as she hit all the high notes, this combined with her charisma and beauty has now put the world at her feet, we are very proud of her, she deserves it and so does the UK’ adds Sam Samra, Director of Miss India UK. ‘The competition was tough and there was a lot of pressure on me, but when I hit the stage I put it all behind me and put in the performance of my life when I looked at the judges they looked like the were in a trance so I was sure I was getting high scores’ adds Amrita. ‘I am hoping to become I mainstream pop star as using Miss India UK and now Miss India Worldwide titles as a platform and I am open to offers in TV and Films also.’ Amrita goes on. Amrita flew to Dubai directly after winning the coveted Miss India Worldwide title for five days to promote Al Liali Jewellers sponsors of Miss India UK during the Dubai Shopping Festival where she will be presented with diamond jewellery gift. She will also be taking this time to do worldwide interviews whilst taking time to reflect on her win and do some sight seeing. She will be returning to the UK on the 15th of January.
