Amritsar's Golden Temple robbed of over 6000 dollars Amritsar | December 27, 2005 4:10:00 PM IST Amritsar's Golden Temple has been robbed of over 6000 dollars Disclosing this here today, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), secretary Dilmeg Singh told reporters that some unidentified persons had managed to break into the treasury room of the Harmandar Sahib and took away the money stashed in a wrought iron cupboard. He said the shrine's management suspected it to be an insider's job and a high-level inquiry has been ordered. The local police, however, has alleged that the SGPC is hindering investigations into the robbery that allegedly took place last Saturday. The treasury room is guarded round the clock by the SGPC's Special Task Force. "Under these circumstances, breaking of solid locks are out of question without the involvement of the SGPC internal staff members," SGPC sources said. They said it has a highly restricted entry and "managing an entry into the treasury office is next to impossible for an outsider".
