I AM SOOOOOO MAD!!

Neice singing - Singing
Canada
December 14, 2006 6:03pm CST
My 8 year old neice was looking forward to her solo Christmas song at the Children's Christmas Choir Pageant but it has been Canceled. Foureen parents have protested that it is at a Catholic Church and they don't wan their children exposed to religion in any form. The other 40 parents have stated that it is an empty building and there is not religion involved. The Founder has sided with the 14 parents and until they can find a non-religious facility to hold the pageant then it will be cancelled. So I am Furious, my neice has worked 2 month with voice coaches and teachers to help her learn the songs and now her dreams are gone. Why are parents so selfish, so crying out loud it is and empty building, we are only there for a concert nothing else! Should the concert still be held? Are the parents selfish? Do the parents have any grounds to worry??

Why don't the 40 children and thier parents get together and find a place to have it. If the Catholic Church doesn't bother you why not still have it thier. The children whose parents don't agree don't have to participate. I think it's really silly to be so selfish about something that is obviously going to bring joy to so many people. When and how can celebrating the birth of christ be wrong?

It's an abuse of the phrase "separation of church and state" and forget the second clause to that statement which says there are to be no restricting "the free exercise of" religion! It is a trying to make all the world only secular, as a state enforced faith. And a faith and philosophy it is! As 'evolution' is far from proven. http://www.inner-monastery.com/articles5/evolution.html

Lump of Christmas Coal - Lump of Christmas Coal
Parent tend to over reach and they don't realize in the end they are hurting there children and I feel if 14 parents don't want it than carry on without them...the founder should have sided with the children who have work the hardest on this and are excited to show their parents. Contact the media and let them know and someone will come forward with a place to make this kids dreams come true. I also hope the parent each get a lump of coal from Santa this year.

Contacting radio shows works well too, as many more are concerned over this than television media and newspapers.

Yes...I think that is stupid. I would still hold it and just excempt those few parents....maybe they could use a little religion by the sounds of it...I mean they are going to ruin it for the children and everyone else over the building...I would talk to the founder....maybe get a petition started or go to him with other people who are for this...etc...

I feel that everybody should have the freedom to choose which religion he/she wants to follow. Regardless, the season and spirit of Christmas is one that everyone should have the privilege to enjoy. Its just a Christmas Choir Pageant with little of not no religious connection, so I dont see the fuss that the parents are kicking up.

Some people are so selfish. so what if it is in a church building. What ever happened to the majority rules. That is what is wrong with this country. We pander to the minority and the heck with the majority. Have the program with out them. The founder is wrong and afraid of being sued is my guess.

Churches are the only ones that give us the uses of the building for low money and if we go the the community hall or the school gym we have to pay 2 to 4 times as much and have to also rent chairs and pay for utilities.

I never do understand how these things happen. How do 14 voices outweight that of 40 others? Similar things, although not as extreme, have happened here and I just don't get it. I'm sorry for your neice and all the other children as well.

Other parents were probably jealous because their kids are not doing solo. Being Church is just their way to say they dont want other people's kid singing solo. Im sorry to hear that and I hope the Founder will able to find a place where those 14 parents will satisfied. How about the school Gym? it not a church.

I think this is bigotry. They cannot even bear to be in an abandoned church facility. Shocking! To me, and so many others, doing the pageant in a purely secular place is more shocking, given not only the season, but the historical tradition. This minority is doing this all over the country, and world. And it's a politically correct bigotry. And they want to rewrite history at the very same time. Saying this country was founded on freedom from religion, instead of freedom OF religion... and the legislating of no-restricting-of the "free exercise of" [the free exercise of religion that is, of course]. Other parents are going to have to stand up and declare their rights, which are being violated. There's a move on to make countries give up their culture and traditions. Starting with the U.S, a most diverse and free place for all religions. Imagine demanding Muslim nations give up their culture and traditions! So they start with the U.S. This is a forcing of the state enforeced faith, which is 'scientific' atheism, they want the whole world to be only secular. And it is only a faith! Although over and over they make the loud claim that it is hard solid fact. But it is not, and is far from anywhere near proven! Much of science actually disproves it! http://www.inner-monastery.com/articles5/evolution.html (evolution, a faith or science?)

Hey this is only a chip of what some of the parents here are afraid of....Until last year when we got a new mayor racism was a bid problem...but now well lets say our Mayor is not white no more and those rasists who could afford to leave left. This is the 21st century get over it people.

thats very sad it is not here where going to be catholic teachings the parents need to grow up and deal with it its also sad that because it's being cancelled because of only 14 if i was running it i wpould say sorry you feel that way guess you wont be there then

Some people have no thoughts for others. Sure it's a church but like you said it's empty and for a non catholic event so there should be no problem. It's only the one day too right? I hope you find somewere to hold the concert.

well why wont people learn when not to poke their noses into unnecessary business I mean if someone is being happy in believing a religion or anything why do others have problems? There are those who are happy with it, then its better to just respect their thoughts and live on their own? Then too they have to show their importance by protesting against things Sickening!

i can't believe how this religion issue had gotten worse like racism. with all the things i read and learn about related matters, like christmas not allowed to be celebrated, christmas greetings can't be uttered, christmas songs can't be aired, i can't help but wonder if time will come that even speaking anything about christianity will be banned, or a christian kid can't be chosen to perform a special number just because she's a christian. that would be crazy! it's very sad and alarming that this religion thing seems to get worse every day :(

I'm curious, are those same fourteen parents upset that the thing is called "Children's Christmas Choir Pageant"? If they are so firmly planted in their desire to keep their children from being exposed to religion, why would they even agree to let them participate in something that has Christ in it's name? I don't understand. The parents sound a little over the top. They should just not have their children participate. It was nice that the church was willing to lend out it's space. Some adults need to act like adults who live in a real world.

I'm just going to play devil's advocate here, I'm non religious so don't have an opinion based on religion. But maybe calling other parents "selfish" isn't right. If they have an extremely strong view against organized religion they do have a right to oppose their child being forced to perform in a religious building. It doesn't matter if it's empty or not to them probably. As far as selfish goes, see there is a reason I say not to use that word to describe them. What do you think they view of you criticizing their strong beliefs because your want your daughter to sing her solo? Maybe they think it's selfish to complain about their religious objections just to have your daughter sing her solo? It can go both ways, that's why I say not to call them selfish.

So where do they think CHRISTmas came from to begin with? Maybe they should hold it in a stable. It was good enough for Jesus and it ISN'T a religious building. Bringing peace and good will to all men has really gotten to be a heavy task these days. It shouldn't matter where you hold it. The important thing is that you have your concert. The other parents are being very selfish. I would suggest getting with some parents who don't have a problem with it and have a Christmas Caroling or something on that level; not associated with the other event.
