Why do we show more courtesy to a stranger than we do our families?

Why are we more likely to say excuse me to pass a stranger than say excuse me to our loved one as we pass them in the hallway?...does time make way for lack of manners?...where is it in the handbook that says after so many yrs...we no longer have to say "please" and "thank you"?

In my family we make it a point to say "please", "thank you" and "excuse me". I don't have the best manners so I try to teach my son to have better manners than I have.

We started with my son when he was very little, even before he could talk. Every school he has been in has reinfeorced such manners. They even have him saying "Ma'am" and "Sir" which I don't particularly care for, but it makes him care about showing respoect for others.

Thats a lil far i think...although i use sir and maam alot outof respect...I didnt need to b taught it...manners are ahnded down from your parents...thier the ones that really teach them.

I had never really though about it before but you are right, you are more likely to say "pardon me" to a stranger, and most likely to say "get out of my way butthole" to your brother!!! Well i guess the saying is true, you always hurt the ones you love, lol!!! Seriously though that is a really good topic to bring to peoples attention.
