I think I would benefit from some form of meditation to relax. I have no experience at it so I would like to hear from you. Thank you, really Click on the link ( http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/436602.aspx ) to check out the post that started this one and see some of the other topics you may be interested in talking about.

When I meditate I sit on a chair, place my feet flat on the ground, close my eyes and breath through my nose. Then I focus on my breath and observe it as I inhale and exhale. If any thoughts come in I just return my attention to my breath and do this as many times as I need to. I try and meditate for 15 minutes every day, but I gradually built up to this time so just meditate for an amount of time that's comfortable to you - maybe try meditating daily for 1 minute each day and build it up to 2 minutes the next week etc. I hope this helps. Please let us know how you get on.

I actually meditate by thinking about the Word of God. Mainly scripture verses that speaks of God's promises. It says to meditate on His word day and night. I try to do this as often as possible.

I'm not going to be able to give you any expertise on meditation because sometimes I still find it difficult. But here is one thing that I wish someone told me as a beginner: Don't try too hard! If you are straining to meditate, then you are doing the opposite of what you need to do. I suggest to start out by just practicing being quiet, sitting still, and listening to the sounds around you without making any sounds of your own. Try doing this for just a few minutes at a time, then keep increasing the length of time you sit in this state. Just practice this sitting and gently listening first before you start "meditating" per se. This sitting and being mindful is itself a form of meditation, and will act as a peaceful gateway to deeper meditations in the future. Remember, you don't have to put yourself into a trance the first time you try meditation! Just sit quietly and listen to the world. People in our society generally need practice being quiet and still, anyway. I know I did! Good luck! ~Wyrdsister

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I think what you suggest will help me. Most people do find it difficult to remain still but I will try.
