1.http is hyper text transfer protocol...used transfering hyper text (html) through browser.it's contained URL (uni resourses locator). 2. FTP is File transafer protocol... is protocol used to transfer file or files like if you want to transfer a number files of your site that you have designed together into a site hosting or just uploading and downloading file/files. 3. SMTP is Simple mail transfer protocol is a protocol that used send and received email. I think this is part of we want to build a mail server/service.

HTTP-HyperText Transfer Protocol. FTP-File Transfer Protocol. SMTP-Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. HTTP is required to access the webpages from the browser,FTP is required for File Transfer,it may be uploading or downloading and SMTP is for email. When we send a e-mail,or receieve a email we require it.

Most browsers don't require the http anymore, unless you're entering in an IP address (Domain names point to IP addresses, and IP addresses are the "location" on the internet). WWW is the World Wide Web, and the most common prefix to domains. It's basically just a standard, but doesn't have to be followed.
