Does it bother you for People to know your Age?

Why is it that women don't like their age to be known? We are what we are. I didn't realize how many people including Men that hate disclosing their age. It doesn't bother me and I mistakenly asked a really good friend of mine casually about how old she was and Boy did I get the look of death just for asking. So tell me if this bothers you and what some reasons why might be. I'd just like to understand.

Oh goodness no! I am 49 and am proud of it. What is the alternative to aging? I would rather age thank you very much. My motto is, I will age, but never will I grow old.

I agree totally. My mom always said " I would rather get older than consider the alternative". No matter what your age, if you feel "young", are reasonably healthy and active, and take care of yourself, then you will never be "old". I may get old in the number of years that I live, but I will never act old- that is a promise to myself.

I think people are worried about being judged for their age rather than for the person they are. If you look younger than your true age, people might assume you have less real-world experience (I think this matters mainly in the business world). In the dating world, some people make a big deal about age difference; by not revealing your age too soon, you give a potential partner time to get to know you first. (I'm not saying this is a good idea; it can easily backfire. Just that it's one possible reason for some people.) If you look older than your true age, maybe you just don't want to hear "I thought you were older."

Yes, it bothers me to tell my age to people because I am older than my husband and everybody that knows him knows how old he is. I just prefer that it doesn't come up in conversation because I am sensitive about it.

How is other people knowing your age going to make a difference in what they think of you? Most people are still going to think the same way about you no matter what your age is. My husband is younger than me a couple years, doesn't seem to make a difference of what people think of me. Thank you for sharing your opinion.

I do not mind at all. I am 26 and i am proud of it =) I do not also understand why women are so protective of a number. everytime someone asks my mom her age, she flashes her eyes and says - 20 - what did u think =)

good on you for enjoying your age and hopefully every year that follows, too many people complain and if they got a million pounds every birthday, how chuffed would you be to say your were 50 for example

I have never understood that either. I am always completely honest about my age. I don't see the big deal!

I'm only 22 so there's no problem about telling others my age, what boters me is that they tend to judge me because I had a child and got married at 20.

I've just announced to the world that I will be 64 this coming April 9. I don't think we should keep our age secret. All of us undergo this process of aging and we should be proud to be older than others, obvious reasons.

No, I am 30, and no matter how you try to hide it your going to get older, it is a part of life, I think woman should be proud of their age, after all you have been through to get there, it is an accomplishment, not something to hide.

There is a wrong psychosis regarding expressing one's age, particularly more in women. This should not be there. Rather we all should accept the fact that one's age is the natural record of his thoughts and expressions always. Just by replying it truly with a sense of cheer, the person is morally lifted up and deserves real honour from his listener. Oherwise hiding or making false statements on age is always a case of inferior and escapist psychois. My opinion may hurt many but truth has no alternative! Thanks.

it doesn't bother me if someone asks about my age, why should it? everyone goes through aging so why should we be ashamed? i think what we should be ashamed of is if we haven't learned anything at the age that we are... there should always be learning with each passing day... be proud! as long as you could do what you love to do, then age doesn't matter!

The one thing I hate about revealing my age to a person, no matter what age they are, is that they tend to immediately make a huge deal of how youthful I appear to be. I'm 22 years old and they still think I'm like 15. I do admit to having a babyface but they take it way too far. Plus, I'm not that tall at only 5 fet 8 inches. I see younger people towering like skyscrapers. But, as they say, age is nothing more than a number. It's the mentality that counts.
