Male or female cat?

I have an adorable black male kitten that is very affectionate, playful, and loving. I would like to know for those of you who have cats, is there a difference in personality between females and males? I've always had male cats because to me, female cats seem less open to visitors in your home.

There is a definate difference. My male cat doesn't like to be held unless its on his terms. The female we have right now loves to be petted and held. She is a crab though. She will growl if she wants to be left alone and hides if there is someone new in the house. Our male runs up and greets the people and never growls at anyone. Its like they are human. The female must go through pms.LOL

I have 2 male cats and they are as different as night and day. One loves men and hides at the smallest sound. The other LOVES women and is the friendliest to everyone, especially stranger (but not dogs). My parents have a female cat that only loves certain women and women, she is SUPER independent (sometime I wonder if she just uses my parents for food, and if the they stopped feeding her, she'd be gone). She leave the house for everything out of the ordinary. I love cats, though. They are super low maintenance and listen well (well look like they do, which is all that really matters when it comes down to it), independent, and have a great personality. They don't give a crap, really, when it comes down to it, and so many time I wish I could feel the same way. I want to come back as a spoiled rotten house cat.

Well i got no experience with cats although i can say that without a shadow of doubt that there has to be a differnce in the mood, behaviour of the genders

Believe it or not, I have known over 100 cats in my lifetime. In my experience, the personality differences amongst cats really don't follow gender lines. Male cats may show their territorialism in different ways than females, but both genders can be quite territorial. Some male cats accept other cats easily, some don't -- same goes for females. One exception to this: If you leave him unneutered, he will distinctly show male territory-marking behaviors (spraying on the wall, for example), which females, spayed or not, never do. So you probably want to neuter him before he matures, otherwise, that behavior stays for the rest of his life. If you neuter early, there is a very good chance that behavior won't show up or, if it does, it will be minimal. Cats, much like people, have entirely different personalities, each and every one, male or female...

every cat is different with independent personaes. I've had male cats that love to be held and petted and I've had female cats that love to be held and petted, I've had male cats that hate to be held and petted and I've had female cats that hate to be held and petted... gender makes no difference in cats, it all depends on their personality

We have a female tabby..and she is affectionate. She doesn't mind company and is usually quite friendly towards visitors too...I don't know much about male cats. However...my father-in-law has a male and he is vicious. He is always trying to claw and bite visitors...so I think I will stay with females....lol...

I have got three cats myself ... 2 male and one female. I do not know if my story points to all female cats but this is my experience. the two male cats are very affectionate and always want to cuddle and lay on my lap... and ofcourse the visitors. The female is mostly sleeping. Sometimes she has her weird 5 minutes and she will run around. She also wants to lay on my lap whenever she sees a chance. She is not to fond of visitors..

Loughborough University - One small part of the uni campus, the trees are barren because it's beginning of winter...
I don't think so... they seem the same to me. :-) I would think each individual cat whether male or female would have a different personality of their own. Don't you think? Like humans... saying whether males or females behaving differently seems a bit generalising.

I agree, my male cat is an absolute sweetheart. When we had a female, she was a spitfire--lucky for us she ran away.
