Xmas stress? Why go through it?

I seem to be pretty rare in that I don't celebrate Xmas. I don't shop, I don't decorate, I don't care. It's nice to have a day off work, but that's about it. If other people want to celebrate that's perfectly fine of course. But what gets me is how many people seem not to actually enjoy it. Instead I see people talking about stress, lack of time, expense adn al the negative aspects of the holiday. So if you don't enjoy it - why do you do it?

My family, who does celebrate Christmas, takes a very non-consumeristic approach to the holiday. We don't buy each other presents (with maybe the exception of something very small and funny) or we make each other presents, and we focus on just being together and having a good time. It's so less stressful this way! ~Wyrdsister

X is the early Greek symbol for Christ. It is a perfectly legitimate abreviation for his name.

Your thought of enjoyment is in negative way. If you think positively and join those who are celebrating, you can be more happy.

I have lots of stuff I enjoy. Why spend money on something I don't just because everybody else seems to be doing it?

Im sorry you feel that way. Have you always felt like this? Yes sometimes the holidays can be stressful. But in the end it is worth it. Just to watch the faces when they open their presents is satisfaction for me. And to make a great dinner is too. To show your loved ones how much you care. Yes I wouldnt it up for anything.

I don't need Xmas to enjoy spending time with the people I care about. I can do that every day. I don't care about it, I just wonder why other people do it when they don't seem to be enjoying themselves.

is very hard to just ignore Christmas. Do you have a fmily close by? If so, do they celebrate? Have you ever liked the holiday

I see my family for dinner because it's a chance to see everybody together, but I don't do the gift exchange. I tell them if they want to spend money on me to give it to a charity instead.

i think you are taking it too literaly..of course there are some big expends made on christmas, but the stress and all that is happening in a wedding also,right??..and maybe you will hear the couple complaining that there is so much stress and that everything costs very much, but in the end, they enjoy it because it's their marriage and when the party starts they forget about all the troubles and problems..it's just humanly to complain and to be stressed but that doesn't mean that we should stop doing everything that implies some problems

Your not alone I do not celebrate it either .. My thoughts are !! I dont believe in god so therefor do not celebrate it .. What gets me is people that celebrate christmas and they dont believe in god they dont go to church they complain about bible bashers at there door then they have the nerve to celebrate jesus christ .. I cant understand these people you believe or you dont .. its like my family they all gather around eat and drink !!give each other presents !If you were to mention god they say dont be stupid he doesnt exist .. hypercrites all of you that dont believe in god and celebrate x-mas ....

Christmas is more then just about gods son being born. Christmas is about family coming together and having a good time. The family is off work and can all be with each other and celebrate. Having your kids believe in santa and not even wanting to go to sleep because they are so excited is priceless. Just remember that christmas is about many things not just jesus.

fully right.if you donot like to celebrate xmas,no problem, sometimes,i also feel very odd in celebrating the xmas in the present way by spending lot of money in gifts and decorations and drinks and finally sit gloomily on jan 2nd and go on paying your bills of the credit cards.this does give stress to all of us afterxmas celebrations and we all end up spending much more than we could afford.god have certainly not stated to celebrate xmas like this.the time has come to think and act as per the gods wish.

Well, for one, Xmas should be about spending quality time with family after working so many shifts throughout the year. I understand that it isn't the same for all families but most of society. The whole Santa Claus thing is a huge myth used to get kids to understand why adults celebrate christmas. Christmas is really about giving than recieving. But why is there only one day to give? We should give all 365 days of the year. If you are living on your own, alone, then why bother with a tree or decorations? The deocorations do not make christmas what it is supposed to be. It's the spirit behind it. Give your family members a call, wish them happy xmas and/or bring them a present. This is what I could suggest. The whole facade of decorations, I'm not sure where this all crept from. Maybe it was in conjunction to the belief of Santa Claus. Now St. Nick was real and he did offer presents, but I don't think it was by dropping down chimneys hauling extra weight.

The best way to avoid the stress is to simply not get caught up in the rush and the commercialisation. If you must shop, shop e few weeks beforehand if you possibly can. Don't leave everything to the last minute.

Very similar situation here - I am not stressing about X-mas, presents etc... It's just like normal day for me. As I have dayghter then I go to shop on December 24 morning and buy some small presents and some candles, maybe some snacks too and that's all. I feel a bit depressive each Christmas so actually I dont want celebrate it at all :-S

I am the same way. I don't celebrate or decorate at all. When I'm flipping through the radio stations and I hear xmax music, it makes me want to throw up. There is seriously nothing that I enjoy about the holidays. I am the one that skips all of the family holidy gatherings and I don't purchase gifts either. I wish this holidy would just disappear.
