Right now - everyone seems to be strapped for cash but business has to go on. Do you think bartering is a good idea? How about starting a thread here and list items you want and items you have. I know there are a lot of bartering sites on the net but who will your trust more? Let me know and your reasons, please.

I hate bartering, I just can't do it, even when I go to garage sales I can't, if something has a price on it and I think it is fair I pay it, I am sure the people who have the sale could be doing better things and shouldn't have to give their things away as some people expect them to do.

I think you are confusing bartering with haggling. Bartering is usually the exchange of services or goods- both sides are giving & receiving something. Haggling is talking someone down on their asking price. In either case, the person getting the offer can always say "no" if they don't think it's a fair exchange.

I love bartering. I belong to two freecycle sites. You barter wha you need (clothes, toys, computers...). You donate what you can. I also trade my 'zines (small, poety magazines) for ither people's zines, art, or music. I've even traded my zines for two, cool t-shirts that I love.

Bartering is good if it is worth it to both people. I don't use bartering sites, but barter with people that I know who are already customers. It does help sometimes instead of getting paid from them and paying them right back

I asked a similar question awhile back, it seems MyLotters just aren't a bartering bunch :) I think it's a great idea and I often do it with my business. Especially when exchanging services, so long as both parties hold up their end, it works out so nicely. I'm a hypnotherapist, of course I value my time but if I barter a session for a service you provide neither of us "lost" anything & we both got something we needed or wanted.
